Increasing Physical Activity

We’ve heard it before…obesity rates in children are on the rise and the level of physical inactivity in children is skyrocketing. Children need a little extra help from parents to get off the couch and getting moving. Being active is one of the main components for achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight which we know helps to protect children from many diseases later in life.
Parents, you can help!
- Bike to school with your children
- Start a “walking school bus” in your neighbourhood. Pick up other children on the way
- Register your children for after school programs
- Meet after school to play on the soccer fields, baseball diamonds, or basketball nets
- Spend a little extra time on the playground so children can play
- Encourage your children to sign up for sports teams at school
