Tips on how to take care of your garden naturally
The Government of Ontario has put together these simple tips to take care of your lawn, garden and pests the natural way!
The following are easy ways you can improve the look of your lawn without using pesticides:
- Pick or dig out weeds at their root.
- Keep lawns well watered but not over-watered – two centimetres of water should be enough to water your lawn, so put a bowl or a cup on your grass when you water to help measure.
- Never cut more than one-third of the height off your grass.
- Cut your grass shorter in the spring and then raise the blade on your lawnmower as the summer goes along, which will help your lawn to grow strong roots.
- Poke small holes in your lawn to allow moisture and nutrients to reach the roots of the grass.
- Clean up your lawn if necessary by removing the tough mixture of dead grass and roots that can build up above the soil surface with a heavy rake.
